Banded Butterflyfish

Chaetodon striatus

Butterflyfish are generally seen in pairs. It is believed that Butterflyfish mate for life and if one of the pair dies, the other also soon dies. All Butterflyfish have sharp pointed, round noses and tiny mouths. This evolutionary designs helps facilitate reaching their food source: Coral polyps. They also feed on worms, plankton, mollusk eggs and crustaceans. Juveniles are similar to foureye butterflyfish juveniles but have no yellow fins.
