Both species congregate in small groups over small areas of low coral reef and feed on plankton. The Blue Chromis is a brilliant blue with most often dark blue along back, and the Brown Chromis is told from other similar fishes by it's bright yellow dorsal and tail fin tips of bright yellow, black spot on base of pectoral fin and white spot at base of dorsal fin. The tail fins of both species have "hooks" at the tips.
