Rock Beauty Angelfish

Holacanthus tricolor

This Angelfish is sighted occasionally, but only in clear water reef areas at depths of more than 10 feet. Juveniles start life being almost all yellow. One round, black spot on their sides gets larger as they mature until it fills their sides top to bottom leaving the head, shoulder area and tail yellow.  Juveniles may sometimes be seen in shallower water remaining close to a place for retreat if feeling threatened. They are easy to identify with their fore body and tail being bright yellow and the mid-body black. The adults have dark purple-ish-blue lips. A Caribbean Angelfish that grows to just about a foot long.
