Beaded Sea Cucumber
Euapta lappaThis is a nocturnal sea cucumber. Hides in rubble during the day and feeds at night. The body can stretch to almost three feet in length. The oral section has long serrated tentacles that search out food and then returns the prey to the oral opening. When disturbed the oral tentacles and opening retract into the body cavity and the cucumber rapidly retracts it's body. The body segments have large bead-like protrusions that give it it's name. Translucent skin colors vary from mottled browns and tans to grays and yellows sometimes with white spots.
