Cero Mackerel

Scomberomorus regalis

This silver member of the mackerel family is occasionally seen cruising along rocky shore drop-offs or around reefs.   I've seen them alone, or with one or two others, or traveling with a small schools of Blue Runners. The midline, brownish gold stripe and dashes that run from behind their eye to tail and the are the easiest ways to identify this fast moving fish. Their rear dorsal fin is dark with a whitish tip as does their anal fin. On average, they grow to a little over 3 feet long.
