Dog Snapper GALLERY

Lutjanus jocu

The Dog Snapper can be confused with the Schoolmaster. Both have yellow fins as juveniles. The Dog Snapper will have a light triangle patch below eye that extends to the jaw. These specimens were in shallow waters and are juvenile/young adults.  As they mature they will become more gray and move into deeper water. The blue eye-line isn't always visible. It depends on the angle of light. The two front teeth that hang over the lower lip give this fish it's common name.
