Dusky Squirrelfish

Sargocentron vexillarium

The Dusky Squirrelfish is very common and the most bronzy red (with silver stripes) of all the squirrelfishes. They are medium sized, up to 5 inches. They are very shy and only peek out at you from the safety of their hiding place. They can be found along rocky coastlines and often use fire coral to hide in. Seen in depths of 2 feet and lower. A couple of these fish have dorsal fin attributes that belong to the Reef Squirrelfish, but otherwise look like Dusky Squirrelfish. Could they be a hybrid?
