Magnificent Urchin
Astropyga magnifica RARE
These are reported to be
very rare in this area. That, that in addition to
the reports that these urchins only inhabit depths
of 30 to 290 feet
deep, makes the encounter even more spectacular
since these were in 5 feet of water~! Juveniles are
lighter colored and the adults are almost
black/purple in color. So it seems these two are
different ages.
