Houndfish -- Tylosurus crocodilus
There are a couple species of needlefish, but the
most common seen is the Flat Needlefish. They swim
just below the surface and are always around schools
of baitfish. Length will be anywhere from a few
inches to three feet long with dark body bars. Color
is greenish/blueish silver on the back and silver on
the belly. They generally aren't over reefs except
if there is a school of bait fish nearby. The lower tail lobe is longer than the upper. The
other species is the Houndfish
Tylosurus crocodilus
and the least commonly seen, the Keeltail
