Petaloconchus sp

This small creature looks more like a tube worm than a snail, but this interesting animal is indeed a snail. It lives in it's shell which is imbedded in coral or sponge. In these photos you can see that some of the tube-like shells protrude quite a distance from the coral surface. Another name for this snail could be "The Spider web Snail" because if the web of mucus it send out to snag a meal. All you can see of the animal is it's head and two antennae. Most of these pictures were taken at a depth of between 3 and 6 feet.
